Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng born on 21 November, 1985 in Malaysia is an actor and comedian. Chieng
is currently a Senior correspondent on The Daily Show, Comedy Central. He is
also the creator and lead actor on the sitcom Ronny Chieng International
Student. It debuted on ABC Australia and Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng
was born to a Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor Bahru (Malaysia). From 1989 to
1994, he lived in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng appeared in an annual
comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 together with Trevor Noah.
Chieng was invited to audition for The Daily Show's reporter role two years
later. In July 2016, he was named one of 10 Comics to Watch by Variety In
October, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to provide his reaction to a Jesse
Watters Fox News segment that was criticized by some as being racist. Chieng
offers a scathing critique of the program on the conservative network. He also
revisited New York City's Chinatown the area where Watters had mocked
residents, and conducted interviews more respectfully in Mandarin and
Cantonese. The viral video was covered by the Washington Post, Slate, as well
as various other outlets. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout when he was a young
teen. Chieng hasn't managed to acquire citizenship or permanent residency in
Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. In the year 2018, Chieng
made a joke about being an apologist on the Daily Show However, he later stated
in an interview that he was "100 percent not afraid of dogs".
